Sacred Sound Ritual is a musical experience cultivating deep listening. Part sound bath, part healing concert and part ceremony, SSR weaves together traditional chants, medicine melodies and original songs crafted with intention and spontaneity. Whether playing in a yoga studio, at a festival or in someone’s living room, the mission is the same: to create a container for listeners to journey inward and explore their inner landscape through the lens of vibration.
SSR soundscapes incorporate harmony-laden vocals with various instruments, including Himalayan and crystal bowls, shrutti box, gong, guitar, charango, drum, flute, chimes and rattles, and blend elements of world music, folk, and soul, as well as music from Native traditions.
Sacred Sound Ritual was born as a way to weave the essence of ceremony with original compositions and spontaneous explorations of meditative sound. Co-creators and musicians Jessica Caplan and Sean Hoots met in 2015 on retreat in Peru, and forged a connection based in music and their shared fascination with sound and mysticism. They began co-facilitating sound journeys at yoga studios in New York City, while working on original material. When they both re-located to the Hudson Valley in 2016, the project evolved as they began to spend more time practicing and expanding their repertoire. In 2018, their dear friend Eva Geisler joined the project, bringing even richer harmonies and new sounds to the mix.
Jessica is a certified sound therapist, vocalist and yoga instructor currently based in the Hudson Valley. She creates unique yoga and meditative sound experiences, workshops, retreats and trainings that weave her passions for music as medicine, the voice as sacred channel, and the power of community and self-connection.
Music was always a rich part of Jessica's life, both privately and publicly. In 2002, while living as a writer and performer in Hong Kong, Jessica became enamored with yoga , and became a Vinyasa instructor in 2006, certified in Pure Yoga's first teacher training in Hong Kong. Seven years later, Jessica completed sound therapy practitioner training at the Open Center’s Sound and Music Institute in New York City, bringing together her love of music and the healing arts. She is a certified Reiki practitioner and Restorative yoga teacher, and continues her studies of yoga, sound healing, shamanic medicine melodies, voice and most recently, classical Indian music, with talented teachers and mentors.
